What Is Ethylene Glycol?
Ethylene Glycol is an organic liquid chemical that is used in numerous applications. This odorless, colorless additive is most commonly used as heat transfer fluid for industrial coolants and a raw material during the production of many common commercial goods.
Common Uses
Automotive
Used in antifreeze and engine coolant, to help keep your car's engine from freezing in the winter, while also turning into a coolant, during the summer months. EG is also used as a solvent in hydraulic brake fluids.
Industrial Heat Transfer
Coolant for gas compressors, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, HVAC and ice-skating rinks.
Polymers
In many plastic-manufacturing processes, Ethylene Glycol is an important precursor to the composition of polyester fibers and resins. It is used in a similiar fashion when making plastic soft drink bottles.
Raw Material Production
EG is used as a raw material during production of a variety of products, including: polyester fibers, inks, fiberglass, bathtubs, bowling balls and packaging used for bottles. Many of these products are green-friendly and recyclable.
